Civil Engineering Law

Detailed overview of RA 544, the Professional Regulation Commission, and the Continuing Professional Development Act.

Overview of Civil Engineering Practice

The practice of Civil Engineering in the Philippines is governed by Republic Act No. 544, as amended by Republic Act No. 1582. This law establishes the standards for the profession, ensuring that only qualified individuals can practice civil engineering to protect public safety and welfare.

Republic Act No. 544

An Act to Regulate the Practice of Civil Engineering in the Philippines.
This is the primary legislation that defines the scope of practice, the creation of the Board of Civil Engineering, and the requirements for licensure. It serves as the legal backbone of the profession, amended later by RA 1582 to refine the powers of the Board and the examination process.

The Board of Civil Engineering is the administrative body under the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) responsible for the regulation and licensing of civil engineers.

Composition of the Board

The Board is composed of a Chairman and two members, all appointed by the President of the Philippines upon recommendation by the PRC.
