Civil engineers are entrusted with the safety, health, and welfare of the public. This responsibility is the cornerstone of the profession.
Engineering Ethics
Ethics is the study of moral principles and values that guide decision-making.
Fundamental Canons (ASCE/PICE Code of Ethics)
- Engineers shall hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public.
- Engineers shall perform services only in areas of their competence.
- Engineers shall issue public statements only in an objective and truthful manner.
- Engineers shall act for each employer or client as faithful agents or trustees.
- Engineers shall avoid deceptive acts.
- Engineers shall conduct themselves honorably, responsibly, ethically, and lawfully so as to enhance the honor, reputation, and usefulness of the profession.
- Engineers shall continue their professional development throughout their careers.
Construction Safety
The construction industry is one of the most hazardous industries. Safety is critical to prevent accidents, injuries, and fatalities.
DOLE Department Order No. 13 (DO 13)
Guidelines Governing Occupational Safety and Health in the Construction Industry in the Philippines.
- Requires a Construction Safety and Health Program (CSHP) for every project.
- Mandates the presence of a Safety Officer.
- Requires Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all workers (Hard hats, safety shoes, high-visibility vests).
