Scenario: The Washington Accord Advantage
Engr. Reyes graduated from a Philippine university whose Civil Engineering program was recently accredited by the PTC, a Washington Accord signatory. She applies for an engineering job in Australia.
Result: Because of the Washington Accord, the Australian licensing body will recognize Engr. Reyes's academic degree as substantially equivalent to an Australian engineering degree. She will not need to take additional undergraduate engineering courses or undergo a complex academic assessment before she can begin the process of seeking professional licensure in Australia.

International Educational Accords

Example

Scenario: The Washington Accord
A recent civil engineering graduate from a Philippine university accredited under the Washington Accord applies for an entry-level engineering position in Canada.
Application: Because the Philippines is a full signatory to the Washington Accord (through the PTC), Canada recognizes the graduate's engineering degree as substantially equivalent to one earned in Canada. This allows the graduate to directly begin the process of registering as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) without needing to undergo an arduous academic credential evaluation or take supplementary coursework.
